Cankles: The reckoning.

photo

Look at those monsters.   Doesn’t it kind of look like someone filled two latex gloves with water?    Like there are little sausages tacked on to the end of a beanbag?   See how the calf, the ankle, and the foot are all one continuous swollen mess with no discernible definition between them?   That is the current state of my feet.   And I’ve got 11 weeks to go.

[Disclaimer: I hate feet.   They gross me out.   I think they're the worst thing about humans.   So if you hate feet anywhere near as much as I do, then I apologize for not warning you and making you look upon this hideousness.]

Anyway – last night I had a few too many brownies (I know, not on the diet…but I love chocolate) and this is what I woke up to this morning.    Rock-solid, full-blown cankles.  It usually takes a full day of activity to get them to swell up to these proportions.  (I also woke up still full, since apparently my stomach is the size of a bean sprout.)   And as if the cankles weren’t uncomfortable enough, I have a mosquito bite right on the back of my left ankle that itches like a mo-fo.   I do take some comfort knowing that the sheer pressure the mosquito must have been met with when he pierced my enormously puffy ankle probably flung him across the room, simultaneously causing his insides to burst and flattening his blood-sucking hellbeast body against the wall.   In fact, I’m almost certain that’s how it went down.   Take that, mosquito.

Welcome to Week 29.

29weeksHow far along? 29 weeks.
Total weight gain/loss: I can’t look.
Stretch marks? Thank god, still no.
Sleep: In spurts.   I can’t seem to make it through a full night anymore.
Best moment this week: I made it through the GD test (the dreaded orange drink) at my OB’s office and didn’t barf.   I was pretty psyched about that.
Movement: I can feel her all the time now.   It’s awesome.
Food cravings: Brownies.  ::hangs head in shame – sees cankles, averts eyes::
Gender: Girl.
Labor Signs: Happily not.
Belly Button in or out? It’s in, but it’s threatening to pop now.
What I miss: Still my hip bones.   I’m going to add ankle bones to this list as well.
What I am looking forward to: Going to San Rafael this weekend.
Weekly Wisdom: As suspected, it does truly suck to be pregnant in the summer.
Milestones: The crib project is underway.   Thanks to Scott.    I’m waaaay too busy complaining to be of any assistance, but I do try to bring him beers every so often so he doesn’t get too cranky.

I'm 29 weeks now and no cankles yet (thank god) and hoping for the same no barffing after the orange drink success that you had tomorrow. Just wanted to let you know that you look great for 29 weeks and I'm jealous of the whole no stretch marks! My 1st didn't leave any on the tummy but did a number on my thighs (no bikini's now) and my 2nd left a couple on the tummy low enough so should you get a peek (not that you want to) at the tummy you wouldn't see. We'll see this time around. Anyways good luck with you little girl may she give you tons of joy over the years to come:)

You look great! My feet were more swollen when I got home from the hospital (a week after having a c-section... ugh)... major cankles! I also didn't get stretch marks until after the baby was born, and it was only 2 little lines, thank goodness! Yuck... the orange drink is so gross! Glad you survived it! And, yes... it does suck to be pregnant during the summer... I live in AZ and I was pregnant from February thru November... which is basically 10 months of summer/hell... Next time I'm hoping to be pregnant during our very short "winter"...

Hang in there! :)

Im 26 weeks & 4 days.... and know exactly how you're feeling! Your bump looks very neat, and no stretch marks, well done you. Me neither, yet, but sometimes my skin feels sooooo tight that I am sure when she pops out I will have them :( Kankles make me laugh. Im sorry but they do! I haven't got them...yet!

ew ew ewww that orange drink eww...pahleasee tell me they gave you a cold one! Its only slightly more bearable- but better then totally luke warm room temp. Nasty. I'm glad you made it through it! WAHOO!! ummm San Rafeal....you'll be like practically driving by me if you take 280 :) {take that mosquito is right!} LOL.....seriously though...you look fantastic! I'm not just saying to say it...I know you aren't probably feeling like you look great {because I remember feeling the same way} but you do.

Your feet are fantastic.. Don't worry about that, you should've seen me when i had those, like the feet of the elephant LOL!!!

You may think you have cankles BUT that polish is pretty fierce! Totally takes away from the swelling!

I think it's safe to say that you truly hate feet LESS than you used to :)

That bottom pic is so cute ...I love the black and white one on your side bar. ..so pretty.

You are doing better than me! I'm only 22 weeks, but my belly button is half out already, I already gained 14 pounds, I have the beginnings of stretch marks on my boobs and right side, and I'm getting bruises easily on my legs (my mom had varicose veins, and my circulation is not great...I fear the veins myself!)

In four weeks I drink the orange drink...not looking forward to it.

To be honest,I think you look totally awesome for being 29 weeks pregnant! You are really pretty, and your belly is one of those perfectly round ones that they always have in pregnancy magazines.I'm pretty sure that one day if I get pregnant,I'm going to swell up all over, and look like a vienna sausage that's been in the microwave too long, and is about to explode.

PS.I could kill you for not having any stretchmarks.I've never even been pregnant and I have stretchmarks.

PPS.Your ankles might be swollen out of control, but at least you've got a hot color on your toenails!
