For whom the belly tolls.

Alright, so I’m starting to freak out a little bit.    At 32 Weeks Pregnant, a realization has hit.   That 40 Week mark I’ve had on my calendar since February as a deadline to finish up projects?   It’s suddenly closing in on me.   The more networking I do with other moms-to-be, and the more of them who have started to deliver their bundles of joy (and terror) the more I realize that 40 weeks is a myth for many women.   Like all first timers, I’ve been told to brace for a long pregnancy – that my baby will likely come late, but if the sampling of women I know is any indication, I could see this baby as early as 4-6 weeks from now  which is a really. scary. thought.    The past few days I’ve been raging against the clock, feeling like I need to get my [giant, increasingly mushy] ass in gear and move up that October deadline to early September.   The days of hitting the keyboard as I feel inspired have come to an abrupt and screeching halt in my mind, as the days of “write ’til you drop” are now upon me.   But I can do it, right?   Mommy-brain be damned,  I’ve got projects to finish and lists to check off before this girl (who’s been so kindly kicking me in my cervix again) makes her entrance.    I haven’t even taken a birth class yet – let alone a breast feeding class, a hospital tour (although I guess I got a quickie version on my recent thrill-ride through L&D) so if you’re listening, little girl, you better stay in there until your Momma’s good and ready, because you will soon learn what a stressball I can be, and I really, really, really want to be able to clear my plate before you get here.    I guess I should consider this the first taste of motherhood…feeling like there will never be enough time again.

(I would also like to point out that my American Apparel Racerback Tank Dress continues to contain my massive bump – while most of my other clothes are falling short – although my beloved Childish Maternity Tanks still fit nicely as well – the American Apparel tank dresses look like they’ll continue be full coverage through the end of this thing, as predicted.)

Here’s the weekly update:

How far along? 32 weeks.
Total weight gain/loss: Holding firm now.   ::knocks wood::
Stretch marks? Shhh…they’ll hear you.
Sleep: Can’t get enough of it.
Best moment this week: She dances.   The girl dances.
Movement: See above.
Food cravings: Still bacon.   And now Rice Krispie treats.
Gender: Girl.
Labor Signs: Nope.
Belly Button in or out? In!
What I miss: Focus.
What I am looking forward to: The fall.
Weekly Wisdom: Don’t think about the birth too much.   It’s gonna happen.   It’s gonna hurt.   You can’t stop it.
Milestones: Realizing that she’s really on her way – and that it will be on her terms, whether I like it or not.

Try and get whatever needs to be done now because mommy brain is way worse than baby brain (my little one is 8 weeks old)! And now I want rice krispy treats.

you are so cute...how exciting!!! the only thing that I have ever done that is 1/100th of what you are going through is preparing for a new puppy...can't imagine!!!

whoa! tick tock! this is so exciting!! um, i have no words of advice as i am not a mom, but ticking off that check list might give you some peace of mind. eke!

i am so excited for you. it is pretty crazy that your baby is going to be out and about SOON! wow!

"The girl dances" :) I like that.

my first one came just a few days early and my second was right on. I hope she comes when you are good and ready, per your request....BUT I know you will make one awesome mama....so even if she comes a bit sooner then later, you'll be ready. I am sure you are stressing a bit, but don't worry AT ALL. This little one is coming into the arms of two wonderful parents who have already given her SO MUCH.An already, ready for her arrival family.

Rice Krispy treats sound dang good right about now!! :-)

In all seriousness, though, I feel your pain & panic. I was studying all summer, and actually just had to start working this week--I work from home, and it is tough to be motivated. Day One was fun, but now--8 hour workdays are just not happening. Yesterday, I think 5 hours was all I got in--where the other 3 hours went? I have no idea. And deadlines? I can only hope to meet them at a snail's pace!

Good luck with everything!!
