Meanwhile, elsewhere on the internet…

So, I have some exciting news:  I’m now blogging daily on all things art & design at a wonderful little place across the internet called CARGOH.COM.

If you’re a lover of art, or fashion, or music, or design…this place is for you.  My new home away from home, the Cargoh Culture blog is an eclectic mix of the current, the vintage, the obscure, if you can name it, and it was crafted or created rather than mass-manufactured, chances are you’ll find it there.

I’ve been working on this for a couple of months now, and I am so excited to finally get to share it.   This is a dream gig for me – getting to work with people I love who are so passionate about what they do, and truly want to serve and support the independent art community has been incredible.    Getting to learn about new artists and watch the marketplace begin to grow is a true testament to the power of the internet to unite and mobilize, and I’m excited about the possibility that presents to independent artists and craftspeople.  So come visit. I’d love for you guys to see what we’ve been working on.

* * *

In other elsewhere-on-the-internet-related news, I somehow found myself nominated to be nominated for the 2010 Nickelodeon Parents’ Picks Awards for Best Parenting Blog (I’m not totally clear on the nominated to be nominated part myself, but that’s how they’re doing it, and as the old saying goes, it’s an honor just to be nominated…to be nominated.)

So, to be actually nominated, Nick (that’s short for Nickelodeon, we’re on a first name basis ever since they nominated me to be nominated for their award) has informed me that I should “Get the word out online! …let everyone know that you’re a potential Parents’ Picks Nominee! They all love you so they’ll totally nominate you every single day!”

Pssssh. Nick thinks that I can get you guys to click that little icon every single day.   I’d be happy (like, really happy) if you guys would just click it once.   So, if you’ve been visiting The818 for a while, and you enjoy the content, then would you consider giving that button a click?   Then you’ll need to scroll down, look for THE818.com, and click the “nominate” icon below it.   That’s it.   You’ve nominated me.   (And hey…if you really like the content on this site and you want to click it every single day as Nick suggests, I would totally appreciate that too – voting ends June 17th.)    You can nominate as many of Nick’s Pick’s as you want, so if you’re a fan of parenting blogs, you should check out the other potential nominees (including my friend Joanna’s blog RAISING MADISON!) and give them some love too.

I adore you Morgan! and you deserve every and any nom you get anywhere! I am so sorry for this totally random and lame comment. I just got my first asshole anon commenter the other day and he/she still keeps coming back with MORE jerkoff comments. ugh. oh well.

you are beautiful, sweet, a great mom, friend, wife, sister....everything. even if you were to post only once a year it would still be incredibly valuable and worth every nomination anywhere!

yay to you and cargoh - what a fantastic gig for you!! and to your nomination for a nomination... clickey-click i go to nick. :)

also - that one comment leaves me wondering why anyone should be ashamed to promote themselves? particularly on their own blog. it's makes no sense... where else would you do it and who else should do it for you?

I didn't read this when you were pregnant because I didn't know about you. I've just read it the past few months. I love your blog and you, I think you scream awesomeness.
It is hard not to be jealous of other bloggers. But we all get our turn in some way. I'm happy you and Joanna are nominated. I can't wait to see what happens. I'll try to remember to click as often as I can.
You are a very classy woman to have responded to that comment the way you did.

morgan, i am SO sorry that anyone would come along and attempt to ruin a happy moment for you like this. specifically, to call you out in a deliberately rude way regarding your posting less since your baby came. since when is it not acceptable for a blog to evolve over time?? i didn't start blogging until poppy was 4 months old, but if i had been writing while pregnant i guarantee i would have been able to make far, far more posts with a lot more written content than i do now. and in reading my earlier entries i can see a clear distinction over the last year - posts have gotten shorter & are supplemented with more photos since p has turned into a mobile near-toddler who needs far more constant attention than before. and if a reader came along and ripped me apart for that? i'd be devastated! i just think that's an awfully mean thing to nail somebody for (and if you actually do read this blog, can we pause and reflect on the fact morgan recently said she's having a hard time juggling parenthood & life right now? way to kick a lady while she's down! pfft.), not to mention HI good writing takes a LOT of time and effort to put forward, and it would be nuts to try and force yourself into the same level of blogging you were capable of creating before your daughter arrived! i've personally really enjoyed this blog even more since delilah came along. i'm impressed that you manage to write as much as you do, and even though i am not a product hunter i read pretty much every review post you make because i find your words & perspective so thoughtful and appealing!

i'm sure i speak for others too when i say we can all get blogger envy, or envy in general, from time to time. you see someone accomplish something and you jump into a headspace of "pssht, I could do THAT." i think that's totally normal, and sometimes a little healthy competition can be a good motivator to try something new or push yourself further. but where it all goes horribly wrong for me is lashing out against others cloaked under the anonymity of the internet - saying things we would NEVER say to someone if they were actually standing in front of us. every single blogger i see reaching a moderate level of recognition/success becomes inevitably privy to people unleashing frustrated "you don't deserve all this attention" "what makes you so special" diatribe and you know what? it's pretty disgusting.

as far as the supposed "shameless self promotion" you've been accused of here? i'm gonna say it: i cry bullshit. not only do you specifically say you'd be stoked to get ONE tiny little click IF your readers want to, you also flat-out suggest that people go support the other nominees! NOMINEES. as in, yeah y'all got picked amongst the millions of blogs out there for a speckle of recognition for your talent & effort. and instead of ripping into you out of OBVIOUS jealousy ::cough, cough:: i would like to say a big fat CONGRATS. also, virtual fist bump, high five, sprinkler, running man for you!!

boo on the trolls. that's really crappy and i'm sorry someone is trying to bring you down at a happy time. but from me to you (and i'm positive i speak for others!) congrats on cargoh and your nomination! also? you look rockin' in that tee shirt!

hugs & cheers!

Ok so yes your blog used to be funny, and full of honest emotion and you posted frequently and yes then I would have said you deserved this nomination. However, since the babe if you post more than a short paragraph more than once a week it is rare. I get that child rearing and working is busy work, and whenever you do post I love them and I get that I am not the sole voice of the interwebz; however there are so many mommy bloggers more suited to this nom that I wonder how you feel you match up?

Now before the ENTIRE mommy blogsphere teams up and says some variation of "if you don't think she deserves the award don't vote" let me clarify that it's not the nomination that made me post this, it's the shameless self promotion (along with the "top mommy blog award") that makes me feel like it's more about a popularity contest than an actual deserving award.

Wow. Well...I guess I didn't really think about how I measured up to the rest of the blogosphere. I was honored that despite my not posting as often as I used to, Nickelodeon still found value in what I have to say and saw fit to nominate me.

As you mentioned, being a Mom and working from home {without childcare four days a week} keeps me very busy, and I treasure the moments that I get to spend posting on this site. Hopefully in the future I'll have more of them. Until then, I'm grateful that people continue to come back here and read and comment and support me when I am able to post.

Before I completely blow a gasket, and say some things that I might regret (probably not) directed directly at you Suzy Loo am just going to post this, and leave it at that!!!

Bitches!!
