It was probably 1989when my parents left my sister to babysit me for the first time and she showed me my first John Hughes movie.

If I was eight, she was twelve, but her taste in movies was stellar nonetheless. I remember her brandishing the VHS tape and informing me it was the best movie I’d ever see. I remember being irritated that it wasn’t She-Ra, Princess Of Power Return To Grayskull or some shit like that. I remember envisioning old people sitting around eating eggs on toast at a diner when I heard the title:

The Breakfast Club

The first draft was written over a weekend and it was to be John Hughes directorial debut. The film ended up flip-flopping schedules with Sixteen Candles and turned out to be the second film the iconic writer would direct, quickly catapulting into pop culture history as it became the most acclaimed teen movie of all time, a title it arguably holds to this day. The Brain. The Athlete. The Basket Case. The Princess & The Criminal.

Apparently it’s also inspired some pretty cool pop art.

I think this Vernon print is probably my favorite:

Also I’m a huge sucker for re-imagined movie posters.

And I’m a huge sucker for Judd Nelson circa 1985.
