Y’all Ready For This?

Have I told you I kind of have a favorite artist?   Well, I have a few, because I love me some art, but only if it’s really cool and not pretentious, if you know what I’m sayin’. (I’m saying art people can be pretentious.  They know it, we know it, and now it’s been said.)

Anyway, I have this weird fantasy of finding the perfect picture for THE Gregg Deal to do in his signature style but in gold and teal to go above my couch and complete my cheerful living room make over…but it’s hard to find the perfect image from which to commission a piece of artwork.   Especially because artists are all picky about what they paint and stuff.   (Not Gregg.  Just, some of them.)

Anyway – I don’t have my dreamy Gregg Deal original yet, but do you know what I DO have?   The very first ever Mod Tots Zebra, by none other than Gregg Deal himself.   (See, Gregg has this modern family portraiture business called Modern Bird that he runs with his wife Megan and since the work they do is so freaking phenomenal, on the ONE YEAR ANNIVERSARY of Modern Bird’s launch, they gave it a little sister (or brother?) in Mod Tots, a line of nursery artwork which includes cupcakes and robots and…that pretty pink framed Zebra up there that Delilah picked out all by her little self.

They come in 6×6 {which look killer in a set} and 12×12 editions (which is what we opted for.)

And here’s the thing about Gregg’s work (each piece is hand signed on the back) these are well made, carefully crafted pieces of art.  His canvas is thick wood and although it came ready to hang, it landed on Delilah’s display shelf and has never left.   Because these bad boys LITERALLY STAND ON THEIR OWN.

And uh…now, thanks to the generosity of Megan and Gregg you can have that same adorable moment replayed in your own home!   That’s right you creepy bunch of lovable lurkers! Someone is going to win a $100 to the Mod Tot’s shop to spend however their (or their little one’s) heart desires.

But the most important thing about Modern Bird and Mod Tots?   They’re a family run business built out of both passion for creating and necessity thanks to the good ‘ol recession.  These days, Megan and Gregg support their children with this incredible endeavor.  And they deserve all the support (and high fives) they can get for that.
